Communicating Ideas 01

Starting to understand how I can communicate my ideas and working with my partner to interview about the future of his project.

The first class focussing on how you present you design and also understanding to whom you are communicating, as this will lead to a very different type of storytelling.

Understanding my own project

The past weeks I spent some time looking into my own project and defining what is important to me moving forward. I started by completing an exercise using the golden circle. In which I contemplated the three questions shown below. After this I created a stakeholder map with these answers in mind. I looked at potential investors, communities, academic institutes and much more. I feel that doing this exercise allowed me to look deeper into current initiatives in Barcelona and what other things might be of importance.

Understanding my partners project

While researching Jorge's website and looking into where he saw his project going. I realized that he had not yet clearly defined his project yet, however when I looked deeper and framed some questions he had 3 different directions where he could potentially go in. In the video you can see the full interview with Jorge, my audio cut out at some moments so might be missing a few responses, however main part is there.

The main conclusions I found from talking to Jorge was
that he initially explored using music as a creative tool but expanded the project to include immersive tools, AI in education, and diverse applications such as blockchain for environmental impact and systemic transportation for multiple cities.

He sees the design context within specific regions, aiming to address global issues and draw insights from different places. The upcoming semester involves a methodological approach with future scenarios and immersive technology for broader interventions. Despite an undecided main topic, Jorge emphasizes a future-forward mindset, staying open to shifts in ideas based on project development. Heritage plays a role, influencing the perspective with insights into diverse infrastructures and development speeds, underscored by personal connections in Mexico and an awareness of the global hierarchy of needs.

Reflecting on Communicating Design 01

This past seminar has been helpful in allowing me to realize what I could potentially use in my future project and also by looking at Jorge's project I was able to gain new insights about his process.

When interviewing Jorge I was really able to see his passion and interests throughout design. While he has a different approach to the project then I do it was really interesting to hear his insights. While he talked about his project I learned that the way he wants to approach the project is not from one specific angle at the moment but rather start from techniques and methods and go from there. I would be interested in now perhaps seeing how he would continue and framing a specific problem to continue with. For me I think I could stand to learn to introduce some past methods into my current practice.

Furthermore by reflecting on my own project and talking to Jorge about it I was able to see that there was still quite a bit to figure out, however the main framework could lead to an interesting project. Jorge prompted me to think about the different scenarios of the future that my project could end up in and also to look at intersections of communities and technologies. Next to this by creating the stakeholder map I found some interesting communities and initiatives that I would like to reach out to in the future.
